Target detection and tracking is the basis of the modern visual technology, it is widely used in military, security and transportation fields. Because of missing the depth information of the target, there is an irreparable defects in method of object detection and tracking by single camera, to solve this problem, we implement a target detection and tracking by dual camera system based on Windows. The system can not only locate and track the target, it can also get the target's depth.The main work of this article:(1) Study algorithms of single camera object detection and tracking, and select one that is simple and effective.(2) Study the binocular vision technology, according to the features of object detection and tracking system, simplify the binocular vision algorithm.(3) Design and implement the system.(4) Test the system, and get a Conclusion.In the indoor environment, the test of this method have achieved a very good result. Especially when the distance of target object and the camera is from 3m to 5m, the distance error is less than 0.3m, the system can distinguish the different targets objects in different depth, and can solve the problem of object occlusion issue well. In addition, the proposed method is not using the binocular vision technology independently, at the same time, we have considered the characteristics of the target detection and tracking system, which simplified the algorithm greatly, and we have verified the real-time of the method in test.
