Color is known as one of the most important part of digital image, so the demand of its accuracy is getting higher and higher.The methods and process of display color are different btween devices. In addition, if the environment changes, the feeling of color that human eye get will be different too. These lead to a result that the same color won't be the same in our eyes. This kind of color difference issue will bring a lot of trouble into our daily life. To solve problems like this, a CMS (Color Management System) is needed to control the color display on different devices and in different conditions to make it look the same.The International Color Consortium set the ICC standards an international standard to the common CMS. Its main idea is to create ICC profile to describe device color gamut, offer the data to CMM (Color Management Module) and make color conversion between device gamut and a device independent color space, the PCS (Profile Connection Space), then make a reverse conversion to display the color on other devices. In this way, the color will be consistent during the procedure, and the color is managed.Currently existing CMSs have very good and detailed functions to control color. But they are usually too professional for normal users, and the users really need them these days. So there's the selling point of this article.This article will go through international authoritative standard (ICC Profile), technical specifications and existing solutions in related area. We will pick some techniques with obvious effect and are suitable for the development and deploy environment to study. Then we will simplify existing solutions with the result in acceptable range and design our very own practical CMS (Color Management System). At the end of the article, we will proof the CMS theory and method by testing the effect of the MyCMS software. |
