Fiber Amplifier is one of the key components to realize all optical fiber communication system. Because it is easy to integrate, the high gain, the low noise and the band width major characteristic obtains the widespread application. In recent years, as people diversified communication services is ever increasing, information and communication technology has been rapid development of new technologies for optical fiber amplifiers having a higher performance requirements. In dense wavelength division multiplexing system (Dense Waveguide Division Multiplex, DWDM), cable network (Community Antenna Television, CATV) and fiber to the home (Fiber To The Home, FTTH) high-power distribution systems, fiber amplifiers have higher requirements saturated output power. Erbium-doped fiber amplifier can not provide adequate pump absorption via short fiber, the structure is very complex because of the long gain fiber, and the efficiency is very low. Doping Yb3+ in Erbium----doped fiber is an effective method. According to the double----clad fiber structure character and the packet layer pump coupling technique,I design and build EDFA/EYDFA two-stage cascade fiber amplifiers.This paper study the basic theory of the Er/Yb co-doped double-clad fiber amplifier,and use of simulation software analysis of Er/Yb co-doped fiber amplifier amplification characteristics. The simulation study focused on an analysis of fiber length,pump power,signal power and other factors on the amplifier performance. And also analyzed the distribution of all cases of the ASE, to further improveing the amplifier performance provides a strong theoretical basis. Based on theory and designed and buildde the EDFA/EYDFA two-stage cascaded fiber amplifiers, And its basic properties were measured, The highest output power of 1.85W achieved in the experiment,which has an optic-optic efficiency of 21.5%.The total gain is 29.66 dB.Several particular phenomenon (Green light) found in the experiment is described and the causes of the phenomenon is analyzed.
