The Next Generation Video Coding Standard H.265, which is a long-term video coding standard, was launched by VCEG in 2005. VCEG planed to complete the requirement definition and begin the detailed algorithm design for H.265 in the study period 2005 to 2008, and if the progress in contribution technology is sufficient. H.265 is expected to be finalized in 2009 to 2010.H.265 standard-setting is mainly designed around the existing video coding standard H.264. It retains the original benefits, yet improves a number of related technologies, and adds some new technologies as well. These new technologies can improve the relationship of bit stream, encoding quality, delay and the complexity of algorithms to achieve the most optimal settings. This thesis is based on the basis of these new technologies to optimize the adaptive prediction error algorithm and to improve the encoding speed.First, this thesis briefly describes the necessity and feasibility of video encoding, the development process of video encoding, and the current research status of the next generation of video coding. Then this thesis introduces the main function module of current video coding standard H.264, and analyses the shortcomings of H.264 from two aspects:the rate control, and the practical application. After that, this thesis introduces the key technologies of next generation video coding, and undertakes detailed analysis of the adaptive prediction error coding in spatial and frequency domain.Based on the existing fast mode decision for the adaptive prediction error coding algorithm, this thesis proposes a context-based adaptive prediction coding domain algorithm, which can predetermine the edge direction of current block according to the edge information of the received block adaptively, in order to determine coding domain of current block. Finally, through a large number of experiments shown that the improved fast mode decision algorithm can not only reduce the encoding complexity, but also can improves the coding efficiency and with certain degree of self-adaptation.
