With the development of network technology, network scales are growing and user needs are increasing so that the existing communication networks are difficult to adapt to the new situation. At present, many experts and scholars at home and abroad are committed to the research and development of a fire-new network of next generation in order to solve the problems of existing networks. The Vector Network is just one of these attempts and it is a new data communications network which implements unlimited scalability, separation of the transfer plane and the control plane and low cost and high QoS with the vector address as exchange address. After the comprehensive analysis of current popular network technologies including IP, ATM, MPLS, ctc, this paper elaborates the special advantages and application prospect of Vector Network(VN) combined with requirements of next generation network.Based on the Vector Network theoretical system which is gradually perfected, this paper focuses on the way to build vector communication subnet on switched LAN, advances the new concept of switched Vector Network and the new design of transition from IP network to Vector Network with IPoverVN method. In this theory, develop the communication terminal driver module in Vector Network based on Windows platform and implement the integration of IP network and Vector Network. In order to better verify the feasibility of this theory, we have designed and constructed an experimental network. The experimental network is a switched LAN which contains terminal system and switched routing system. The experimental contents have covered the construction of vector communication subnet, the design of address translation process, the design of call and routing process, the coding of terminal system driver module and the research of IPoverVN method. Through the implementation of communication process between vector network terminal in VN subnet, test the function of terminal system and switched system. The result of this experiment verifies the correctness of Vector Network and the feasibility of the programming method and achievement project, laying a good foundation for next step work.
