With the popularity of software applications and the plexity increase, software quality assurance has become increasingly difficult. These require testers to find a lot of testing methods and techniques to resolve issues of product quality. These methods have slowly evolved into specialized software system testing technology, then thrived rapidly and became essential and integral part of the software life cycle.Under the circumstances of too many functions in the software and too heavy test works, automated testing becomes a very important factor if you want to raise output and at the same time ensure the quality. Automated testing can not only greatly reduce the workload and work of the test difficulty, but also avoid unnecessary problems of subjective negligence. It on the one hand speeds up test speed, so that testers can test frequently in short-term and on the other hand ensures product quality and progress, increasing business output and input ratio profitability.As a branch of software testing, web testing has its unique characteristics. Web application's concurrency is very high, at the same time there may be hundreds of thousands of users click on the page; Web applications' fault tolerance must be very high, because the more user, the increase likelihood of problems, then these requires system stability and fault tolerance should be strong enough; There are many uncertainties in web page, Web system must achieve compatibility for different browsers and different operating systems. Based on the above web characteristics, Web testing becomes more complex.On the basis of introducing the subject of Web testing basic knowledge, this thesis made development, not only gives specific descriptions for the Internet test characteristics, test methods, test procedures, test theories and skills, but also gives systemized analysis and the author's views for the automated Web application testing. On this basis, the thesis also introduces a new open source automated testing framework Watir, it uses the Ruby language, specifically for Web testing, provides a very simple way to testers quickly learn and use, watir is very effective to accelerate automated testing. At present, this framework has been used by many domestic well-known Internet companies. However, watir as a new framework, its function is not perfect; After analyzing its basic functions and its shortcomings, this thesis re-perfect its functions, making it as a more comprehensive automated testing tool.At last, a summarization about this thesis and future search work is given.
