EPON technology is a new type of fiber-optic access network technology which adopts point to multi-point structure and passive optical fiber transmission and provides a variety of services in Ethernet. It combines the advantages of both PON technology and Ethernet technology as low cost, wide bandwidth, strong extensibility, good compatibility with the current Ethernet and easy management, etc. On the other hand, WiMAX is a major force in broadband access field. As a wireless access technology, it requires low initial investment, short duration of construction cycle and is able to render services in a short term. Therefore, WiMax possesses great flexibility in service development. It meets the developing tendency of the broadband access network as flexible access and wide coverage. In view of the above, WiMax has a significantly extensive application prospect. The combination of the above two technologies, namely, WiMAX and EPON, will overcome the shortages of each technology. Moreover, some technology features of the two make them fit well with each other.Sponsored by the National 863 Program subject--the key technology of dynamic heterogeneous integrated access network supporting P2P and multicasting--this thesis focused on the design and realization of the core functions of WiMAX access part of ONU-side in the integrated access system combing EPON and WiMAX.The main research work in this thesis are as follows:1) Designed WiMAX subsystems in the integrated access system combining EPON and WiMAX--divided and designed the function module in the WiMAX subsystem.2) Designed and realized the downlink and uplink frame processing modules in ONU-side of the integrated access system--analysed the functional requirements of the download and upload frame processing modules and designed and realized such modules based on these requirements.3) Designed and realized the driver for PHY wireless chip--designed and realized the base station and subscriber station driver program for the WiMAX PHY wireless chip chosen in the project; conducted the data loopback test and downlink and uplink test at base station and subscriber station. All the modules of the driver program passed these function tests and created a reliable downlink and uplink wireless data transmission path.
