Design And Implementation Of Home-School Online SMS Platform

Parents and teachers have been longed for a bridge of smooth communication in regard to the on-campus situations of students. The traditional methods for communication between home and school are home visiting by teachers, holding parent-teacher conference or asking another student to convey messages. But all these methods are not timely or accurate enough. Even the way of communicating on telephone will cause inconvenience, due to the special working timetable of teachers. According to researches, there are several problems with the communication between parents and schools as follows:? Teachers are often disturbed in their spare time by calls from parents. This is because teachers are either giving lessons or tutoring students at their working hours. So parents can only connect with them during their rest time. What's more, being afraid of disturbing teachers at rest time, most parents prefer not to make calls, which in turn leave themselves uninformed of students'situations. This is a dilemma of parents. Because of lack of communication, parents are unable to know students'homework or school announcement in time, which cause them unable to assist teachers in managing students.Based on SMS, the Home-School Online System applications have become the fastest and most convenient way for achieving the interaction between schools and parents. Being a typical value-added service of China Mobile, the Home-School Online System is a new parent-teacher communication tool combining many advanced IT technologies such as SMS and Internet. To establish Home-School Online SMS platforms applicable to all kinds of schools and to provide multi-layer education information services is a strong booster to the construction of modern education informationalization.In this paper, the following studies have been done:1. In this paper, we will analyze the status quo of parent-teacher communication. And on the basis of careful analysis about the demand of Home-School Online SMS System, we will analyze the key technologies of this system, through building system architecture with ideas of object orientation and modularization. In this paper, we will elaborate on the technologies of data safety and network security of this system. The whole system will be divided into 7 subsystems: Parent Fees Paying System, Basic Information Management System, Students Appraisal System, Academic Result System, Notice System, Routine Prompting System, and SMS Management System.2. This system is designed and developed with the adoption of SQL Server 2000, .NET technology and B/S(Browser/Server) system architecture. Based on the design and development of object orientation as well as the analysis and selection of data objects, we designed the database and finally finished the accurate design of major modules of this system. The Client adopts the way of Browser, while the Server adopts EMPP(Enterprise Message Point to Point) agreement and ISMG(Internet Short Message Gateway). Meanwhile, MD5(Message-Digest Algorithm 5) coding has been used to improve security.3. Now, after software testing, the Home-School Online SMS Platform is capable of correctly and steadily receiving and sending SMS, managing faculty information, sending education information, sending students prompting information, managing and sending students'appraisal and academic scores, as well as managing sent SMS and feedback. Being convenient to both of schools and parents, this system has already been put into use, effectively improving the efficiency of communication between the two sides.The Home-School Online SMS Platform mentioned above has provided an effective information and communication platform for the three sides of students, parents and teachers, making the real-time communication and interaction between home and school possible.
