This paper expands on by using Zigbee wireless sensor network technology and building wireless environmental monitoring network to monitor environmental variables and to achieve a multi-node and multi-parameter data collection, transmission and processing, and providing a new approach for environmental monitoring. By arranging a large number of cheap micro-sensor nodes randomly in the target environment via a multi-hop self-organization network formed by wireless telecommunication, system can achieve information collection, processing and transmission applications of the measured object within the monitoring area, and complete the environmental monitoring task.This paper mainly describes the overall design of the environmental monitoring system and designing methods of hardware and software in Zigbee-based wireless sensor network technology, and the experiment and simulation based on the research. Firstly, this paper introduces wireless sensor networks, Zigbee technology, network topology, communication protocol, designs hardware circuit of environmental monitoring system, sets out tree network with the CC2430 wireless of which each node is make up of the CC2430, a small external circuit, the temperature and humidity, light sensors Modules, and finally are connected to the coordinator, communicated with remote PC via the serial interconnection. Secondly, the paper gave the introduction of environmental monitoring system software, environmental monitoring, process control system and the software realization of nodes. This paper compares some existing routing protocols for wireless sensor networks, and selects a typical cluster routing protocol-LEACH protocol as the research object, and makes improvement ideas. The LEACH protocol improved selects the cluster head node according to the node residual energy as the main basis, makes multi-hop routes forwarding and data fusion between the clusters. Through the MATLAB simulation platform, network performance had greatly improved compared to previous one; it saves the network energy and prolonged the network life cycle. Finally, through monitoring the laboratory parameters of the surrounding environment (temperature, humidity and light intensity) by monitoring software in real-time, gives the experimental results.
