With the rapid development of China's transport industry, the consumption of automobile tires increased rapidly. It accelerated the development of China's tire industry. Steel radial tire was becoming a mainstream product for its benefits of safety, comfort, energy efficiency and durability. This tire need strict quality control, X-ray detector as an effective means of quality control was widely used by domestic and foreign manufacturers. Traditional X-ray tire detection need operator viewing the tire X-ray images, to judge which tires were defective, this way influenced by human disturbance, did not accurately reflect the quality and grade of the tire, could not meet the requirements of modern enterprise information management. At present, foreign countries had launched a fully automatic tire quality testing equipment, the price was very expensive, and the function could not satisfy the requirements of domestic manufacturers. Therefore, developed a highly efficient, low-cost and meet the requirements of the domestic tire manufacturers X-ray inspection equipment had very important practical significance.This paper analyzed the basic principles of X-ray nondestructive testing. Research of the various X-ray imaging technology , choose a Direct Radiography (DR) technology, for follow-up image processing and defect recognition built a good platform; Cited the impact of common defects in the tire quality; Research of digital image processing technology for tread defect, cord defects and bubbles on the tires. For collected X-ray image processed a series of pre-processing such as filtering, gray stretch, image binarization and image thinning. Extracted structural features, texture features and intensity features for the defect identification; Use of industrial Ethernet and OPC technology, to prepare a communication program , achieved coordination to PLC and PC ; Design a set of detector electrical control system, and the preparation of the PLC program with the host computer to complete the testing process.According to the research, designed a OTR tire X-ray inspection machine control system, through on-site commissioning, the overall equipment operating normally, the system could identify the belt defects, cord defects and bubble defects of all-steel radial tire, image quality and testing results met the requirements of the manufacturer, had been formally put into use.
