Wireless ad hoc networks are dynamic networks composed of a group of mobile terminals. In this network, each terminal acts as both host and router. Popularity of mobile terminals along with the presence of ad hoc network requiring no infrastructure has contributed to recent advances in the field of mobile computing in ad hoc networks. Wireless ad hoc networks have been utilized in military environments. As a result of popular use of wireless ad hoc networks, we research some routing protocol of networks, especially DSR protocol. The implementation of DSR is based on windows system. We research network driver interface specification and raise a method to implement DSR protocol. Microsoft provide a inter media driver frame to developer and we enlarges inter media driver to implement DSR protocol. Then, we propose a new technique to optimize the efficiency of DSR protocol. We use five standard metrics to test the performance of the DSR protocol, namely, average latency to find a new route, average latency to deliver a data packet, delivery ratio of data packets, control overhead, and throughput. We test the effectiveness of DSR protocol. analysis results indicate that as the node speed increases, the system performance deteriorates because a higher node speed causes the network topology to change more frequently under the random waypoint mobility model, causing routes to be broken. On the other hand, as the pause time increases, the system performance improves due to a more stable network topology. After the DSR protocol has been optimized, average latency to find a new route and control overhead reduce evidently.
