Research On A Web-Based Educational Video-on-Demand System

A well-formed network environment can provide a foundation for the digital education, long-distance education, and network education. Multi-media teaching resources database is an important part of the network-learning environment. And the video resources are an important part of the multi-media teaching resource. So how to use this part of resource sufficiently and expediently is a significant problem.Video-on-demand system is a solution that is widely used. How to design and build an educational video-on-demand system which has a stable and good function, friendly customer operation interface, convenient operation method, and excellent way of the search is the main subject the article mainly discussed.Based on the present applied condition of the system and the need of the customers, the article considered that video-on-demand system should be more intellective and humanized to adapt to the need of the customers better. And the system should provide the customers for the function of searching for the video or video segment by keywords, the index of the video, and the classification of the video by grade or subject.This article completely made the research to the analysis, the design and the strategy of the implement that the author would face when constructing the web-based EVOD. The article has four parts: the first part (Foreword) preceded the definition to the investigative topic, and introduced the main circumstance of the topic. The second part (chapter 1, chapter 2) introduced the concepts, principles, main function and present usage condition of the VOD and EVOD system. And this part also introduced the related theories of the EVOD. The third part (chapter 3, chapter 4, chapter 5) carried on the demanding analysis, put forward the total idea, target, function of the design and the consummating method, introduced the structure design, interface design, logic processing design, synchronous design and database design on the VOD system, and then put forward the project of the web-based EVOD system building. At last, this part displayed an EVOD system designed by the author, and provides parts of the codes and interface pictures. The fourth part (chapter 6) carried on the summary and outlooks to the topic, and analyzed the applied realm of the system and the problem that it didn't resolve.
