The rapid development of the computer network provides great convenient for the use and spread of information resource. In the same time, the problem of information security is serious. The traditional method is to encrypt the message. With the improvement of processing speed of CPU and the development of parallel algorithms, it is not an impossible thing to decrypt the encrypted message with supercomputers. Information hiding technique provides another way to solve the problem above. Hiding some secret message in another public information (cover message), it produces the stego cover. The secret message can be transmitted by the transmission of the stego cover. As the stego cover is public, it is very hard to detect the presence of the secret message in the public information and even harder to find out it. Therefore, it can arrive at the aim of the information security. Digital watermarking technique is a branch of information hiding. In recent years, research on information hiding techniques including digital watermark has made great progress and its range of application has been expanded gradually.This paper has investigated some related problems of information hiding and digital watermarking. The paper introduces some essential conceptions such as definition, category, application areas and existing representative algorithms. This paper proposes an improved LSB algorithm with spatial domain algorithm, which can embed message in many bit-planes and possesses strong robustness. In the watermarking algorithm based on Discrete Wavelet Transform (DWT), this paper discusses the relation of embedding intensity and correlation coefficient on detecting and gives the range of embedding intensity.
