Research On Internet Communication Platform Based On Embedded Linux Set Top Box

With the development of Internet and the growing requirement for information communication, there emerged a large number of communication platforms, It provide a great convenience for the information exchange between user of network. However, the current tool to use the Internet communication platform is mainly computer. For a developing country such as ours, the computer coverage is far from being able to meet the request of being as access terminals to the communication platform. Furthermore, China is a big country for television, the TV coverage is very high. So, How to make television becomeing a new communication terminal to exchange information through more convenient means for more people is exactly what we have to resolve. Therefore, this paper discuss how to expand TV set into new communications platform terminal through Embedded system and the existing network, to meet the needs of exchanging information in daily life.This paper mainly research on the design of IP-STB's software and hardware and research on design and realization of Internet communications platform.First, the paper analyse the current popular communicating software's functions and applications, mainly investigate the communications platform, value-added services and network application fields of Tencent QQ,Extract the basic functions of a communications platform;Then intoduce the Design programmes of IP-STB, mainly include designing the hardware structure frameworks, choosing the embedded mainboard and storage equipmentaccording, summing up the signal transmission interfaces of TV set which should be supported by IP-STB, and Design the wireless mouse and keyboard.System software including Linux kernel customizing, mini filesytem, embedded GUI, small Shell procedures. Finally, realize the Internet communications platform, include server and client, communication protocol, and detail of communication processes.
