Visual system is a very important method for humans to apperceive outsider information. According to statistics, about 70 percent information is apperceived by visual system. The information carried by video signal is straight, convenient and vivid. Therefore, video transport has been paid more and more attention.Video technology has was reached second step and developed from analogic transmission analogic storage to analogic transmission digital storage. On the one hand, people always hope that video information is taken by lower rate, which can be achieved by using Video Compression Algorithm (VCA) with high capability function. On the other hand, by the development of internet technology, it is a best way to transmits video information by through network. Recently many scholars put a lot of spirit efforts in this field and achieved big success.By comparing the recent developments and research, there are two different methods to implement video digital transmission and digital storage. One method uses PC to collect, compress and transmit video information. The other method depends on embedded system. Both of the two methods have their own advantages respectively. PC based method has higher coding rate and is easier to implement. Method based on embedded system becomes the hotspot because of its convenience and small volume. Our purpose is to implement embedded video compression terminal to collect, compress and transmit video data at real time.H.264 is the latest international video coding standard. It is developed by a Joint Video Team (JVT) consisting of experts from ITU-T's Video Coding Experts Group (VCEG) and ISO/IEC's Moving Picture Experts Group (MPEG). There are many advanced encoding methods given by H.264. The standard can improve compression efficiency by a factor about two (on average) over MPEG-2. However, the cost of high compress rate is higher computation. The computation of H.264 is triple of the one of H.263, so that it is a great challenge to implement it on embedded system.This paper aims at analysis of coding theory, standard and process of H.264. Then we focus on the DSP chip and propose a couple of methods to increase the speed of DSP. In the end, according to the technology of DSP/BIOS, we implement the collection, compression and transmit of video data at real time.This terminal can be connected to the Internet individually. Furthermore, it canbe integrated with other devices to form a real-time mutual system, which can be used in web TV live broadcast, remote education, web video telephone, web video meeting, remote video monitoring, and so on. The paper is of great value both in theoretical and practical aspects. It will be a big promotion to the development of video imagine technology, video imagine system and to the progress of multimedia application.
