Research On Metric-based Software Maintenance Process Management

In software maintenance process, we can program projects and increasing control through collecting data and analyzing data. Adopting technical measure attitude of software maintenance process, contribute to understand maintenance process, evaluate maintenance quality in quantitative and bring information for decision-maker. Combine with software measurement theory and technology, we do some research and practice work on maintenance process.First, we begin with prime concept about software maintenance and software measure, discussing the application of the measure technology in software maintenance process, describing several software maintenance model and their advantage and disadvantage, pointing out the difficulties in the software maintenance and put forward some measure to cope with it. Next author point out that what change of software maintenance face is strength process manage and improving process management. Aim at independent maintenance department, we analyzing maintain task from different roles and propose measure activity in maintenance progress activity. According to PSM (Practical Software Metric) model and GQM (Goal-Question-Metric) model, we describe the information which different people want to acquire. Supply theory guidance of how imply measurement. Then list some base measurement (number of MRF in a week, time turnover of a MRF, cost of a MRF, etc), derived measurement (percentage of task which finished in time, percentage of every maintenance type, etc) and indicator (software maturity indicator, workload indicator, process indicator) which can help maintenance organization to value the progress and support them in decision-making. At last, develop a tool which helps manage software maintenance process.
