A Research On The Economist's China Economic Report

This thesis is based on a thorough text analysis of the Economist, one of the most prestigious economic and business magazines' coverage on China's economic reform. Taking into account of all the relevant stories through 1992 till 2004, during which period China's economic reform had undergone the most significant changes, this thesis was focused on the agenda setting role of the press and the textual style of the Economist's China report.By teasing into the Economist's report on China's reform through a total 13 years, this research provided a full description on how the magazine managed the topic on it's well established reporting standpoints, and how it then developed a set of context and textual style on China report. The research result was given by a definition of the Economist's unique way of constructing a conceptual framework of China's macro economic outlook, reflecting the reality of China's social environment, the government's stance, the business fitness and market transparency, etc.Extra efforts were also given in this thesis on reflections of the magazine's conceptual construction on China's economic reform, which has analysis on the formation of the western public ideas on China affair. The author thinks that the Economist's report stimulates the domestic media view. And how to report China economy in impartiality and impersonality? The author points out keeping multianalysis view.Comparing with the active press practice with economic and business report, the theoretical preparation was far less well founded. It is one of the ultimate goal of this research, to open up a critical perspective on how to do economic report properly, and to generate more constructive reflections on such topics.
