The integration of Remote Monitoring and Control Techniques and the Virtual Reality Techniques is an important subject in researches in Industrial Monitoring and Control Field. VRML (Virtual Reality Modeling Language) is widely applied to create three-dimensional world through the Internet. The thesis researches some problems of VRML based Remote Monitoring and Control Techniques to integrate VRML into the Monitoring and Control application. With the beginning of analyzing the framework of the system and investigating the integration of the Cortona VRML client and the application by way of the Cortona ActiveX Control, the thesis provides a new method to enhance the functions of VRML based on the container, researches the Fast Plant Engineering Technique, and designs the expressions for the operation information of the devices with VRML. The main content is introduced in detail as follows: Firs of all,after having examined the features of VRML and the requirements of the Remote Monitoring and Control applications, the thesis designs the framework and structure of the VRML based Remote Monitoring and Control System and the functions of every parts of the system. Secondly, in order to meet the requirements of the integration of the VRML Client and the container application, the thesis brings forward a new kind of event graph based on message and a new way to enhance the functions of VRML on the basis of user-defined classes. Then the thesis offers several extended functions of VRML: the thesis designs the three-dimensional movement monitor node and the three-dimensional monitor rotation node, with which the user can successfully control the movement and rotation of the VRML models; to solve the problem of detecting the collision between the VRML objects the thesis provides a method which detects collision with the viewer's agent. Thirdly, the thesis provides the theory of Fast Plant Engineering Technique, by way of which the user can build the VR world with the components without programming any code. Finally, the thesis researches the expressions for the data about the devices' operation from the angle of view of the plant and from that of the single device. And the thesis investigates the data transmission between the VR plant programs and the VR device programs to combines the two parts of the system. The integration of the VRML and the Remote Monitoring and Control application makes VRML applied more freely and offers the applications much better environment to communicate, so VRML based Remote Monitoring and Control Techniques have great academic significance and promising applied prospect.
