With the increasing demands for exchanging data in or between electronicsystems, reliable wireless interconnection between spatially separated devices is ofgreat interest recently.Ultra Wide Band (UWB) technology, especially the Impulse RadioUWB(IR-UWB), has become a hot topic of wireless technology, because of itsadvantages in short distance communication. 1553B is a reliable and real time databus widely used for high reliable interconnections between devices, but its applicationis restricted by using special cables.Having studied the technical characteristics of both IR-UWB and 1553B protocol,we found that it is possible to utilize UWB as the physical layer of 1553B protocol toprovide a solution for the reliable wireless interconnections between terminals. In order to testify the feasibility of this solution, we have carried out a wirelessdata exchanging experiment between 1553B terminals using IR-UWB. The results ofthe experiment have indicated IR-UWB is a potential physical medium for 1553Bwireless network. The research work of this paper has probed the feasibility of building a wireless1553B network utilizing IR-UWB as the physical layer, and has obtained somepromising results, which are beneficial for further studies.
