With the rapid development of science and technology, there has been more hope to exchange and sharing data and information between different information systems to eliminate the "information island". For this reason, the research of enterprise data integration has been so hot point that many people focus on.Recently, the widely application of metadata has brought new power to data integration. The information on data structure and meaning contained in the metadata can be great helpful to data integration. People have realized that the metadata integration is the precondition of data integration. But many business products store metadata using different formats; this brings certain difficult to metadata integration. If all metadatas could be based on a common model and be used to unify the transport format, they can operate on each other. For this need, OMG has proposed Common Warehouse Metamodel (CWM) specification. CWM provides a common standard for metadata comprehension and exchanges in heterogeneous environment.This paper firstly discussed the enterprise data integration as a base, and then addressed the importance of metadata integration. Then we presented several solutions of metadata integration and researched the policy of metadata management. We also analyzed CWM's contribute to reducing the cost of metadata integration and improving the rate of return on investment as a model-based infrastructure of metadata integration.We have developed a CWM-based metadata integration management system which was called as WMMS based on above analysis.This project analyzed the design and implementation of meta-store. Meta-store, the central component of WMMS, is a cheap solution to store CWM metadata. It is based on the widely use of relational database, which can be well mapped to and encapsulate the CWM object. So it can meet the need of metadata store, exchange and sharing.This project also extended the modeling tools. Based on the detailed analysis of CWM's classes and the relationships between classes, we consummated the model import component and the model integration component, and improved the model checking algorithm by utilizing Rose Extension Interface (REI ). Using this tool, the modelers can create model, import model from meta-store, and modify/integrate the models. Model checking function can guarantee the models which created or modified by using this modeling tool according to CWM specification.
