With the rapid development of communications technology, the processing capability, efficiency and real-time performance of communications system will be higher and higher. The high-powered embedded processor, peripheral module and embedded OS are needed in communications system. The embedded system that is based on "COMIP" and μClinux OS was discussed as the object in this dissertation .Based on this, the method and thought of constructing the hard real-time embedded system were raised.In this dissertation, the characteristic of embedded system was analysed, and the design of system framework and hardware that was based upon requirement of system and high capability, high integrating degree and multi-function of COMIP was accomplished. The problem about impedance discontinuity between subboard and motherboard and assignment of power supply were solved. The reduction, configuration and porting of the standard μClinux kernel and the bootloader were accomplished considering hardware constructure of system. The μClinux kernel was reconstructed to improve real-time performance in order to fulfil the demand of real-time performance in the communication system, and the method and thought of constructing hard real-time kernel that was composed by real-time scheduler based on the "bitmap" algorithm, the preemption function and the thread management module were raised. Finally, the capabilities of thread processing and semaphore processing of hard real-time μClinux kernel were tested, and compared with the standard uClinux kernel and Vxworks to get impersonal evaluation of hard real-time kernel.
