One of main developments of CAD technique is the integration of CAD/CAM. At present, the integration of CAD/CAM is mainly the integration of information, i.e., using an unitary program to control and implement the extraction, transformation and sharing of the information in every CAD function module, then making the information transmitted fluently in the system and the system running collaboratively. The method based on unitary product information model and database is the key point in the integration research , it takes the product information model as the core and the unitary project database as the foundation. In order to achieve the integration, we should resolve the problem describing product features including geometry, material, manufacturing process of components at first, i.e. the problem in the product modeling of the CAD system. Geometry modeling technique (including wire frame modeling, Superficial modeling and solid modeling )can not be adapted to the contemporary requirement in the development of CAD/CAM integration, then it comes into being the feature modeling means which can integrate entire product design and manufacture processes.The feature modeling is a new development in the CAD modeling technique. It can express the integrated information of the function and production control of the product better, and build the integrated information model of the product. The product features include the special geometry forms, topology relationships, special functions, drawing methods, manufacturing technique , the accuracy of the product and so on. Features are cited to directly express the design intent,and make the product model more easy to be understood and produced. So, the feature modeling technique is thought as an unique method of CAD/CAM integration.The dissertation introduces an integrated feature modeling system, which is developed by using Visual Basic programming tool, based on three dimensions solid model by Solid Edge, can implement feature dimensions drive of the Solid Edge three dimensions solid model and product feature data management. All of this is an exploration to the feature modeling technique. The major work in this article are as following:On the base of literature analysis, the signification, development state, functions and system framework of feature modeling are discussed, characteristics of Solid Edge, and the feasibility, advantages, methods of Solid Edge's second developing by using Visual Basic are discussed in more detail, the interaction mechanism and interface technology are also illustrated. All of these prepare for using Visual Basic to develop the feature modeling system based on the three dimensions solid of Solid Edge.Then the author comes to how to use Visual Basic programming to extract information of shape feature of the three dimensions solid made by Solid Edge, and then add process information through the interface to match the two kinds of product information together, and finally save the data in unitary data format in the database, i.e., the feature modeling process.A new method realizing the feature dimension drive of the three dimensions model made by...
