Survivability is a vital technology which greatly impacts the performance of optical networks. Survivability technology ensures the restorations of affected traffics in failure condition. The research for survivability technology is developed along with the evolvement of network in the optical network. The multi-granularity switch is not only a characteristic technology in the transport plane of intelligent optical network, but also an important way to the development of future network. It is a new field correspondingly and a challenging problem for the research of survivability scheme in the multi-granularity optical network. Meanwhile, for the next generation optical network, the multi-cast application will become more and more popular, along with the deployment and development of traffic, such as stream media, video conference and so on. Compared with traditional single-cast traffic, the traffic carried by multi-cast become much more and very sensitive to some parameters like time delay, so it is very necessary to ensure the survivability of optical network multi-cast, and it is important to research the multi-cast survivability scheme for the next generation optical network.In this dissertation, our research work focuses on survivability technologies in optical network. After extensive and systematical summarization of survivability, we make deep research for the survivability of multi-granularity optical network and optical network multicast. The main innovative results are listed as follow:1. We make an extensive and systematical summarization of optical network survivability technology, from survivability strategy to multi-layer network survivability, and make an analysis for the control plane survivability in the intelligent optical network.2. We researched the routing technologies in intelligent multi-granularity optical network. Based on that, survivability schemes in intelligent multi-granularity optical network are studied. In WBS network, dedicate path-based protection (DP) scheme and three types of share path-based protection (SP) schemes are presented. Also some simulation results are analyzed. In addition, based on traditional restoration schemes, a new waveband path-based restoration scheme is proposed in WBS network.
