The Study And Design Of The Online Academic Communication Environment

The era of knowledge economy is coming, academic communication has arouse more extensive attention. But the real-time academic communications between professionals are restricted by factors such as space, time, cost, etc.In the author's opinion, adopting the network and multimedia technology, the online academic communication platform can be designed. Based on the platform, the online communication, which focuses on academic themes between experts and participants, can get better effect of distant real-time interaction. This study aims at founding an online academic communication environment, tries to solve the academic communication problem between the professionals in different places.The research uses several methods, such as research study, document research, action research, case study, interaction process analysis etc.Beginning with solving problems of academic communication in the graduate students who major in Educational Technology, the author founds the online academic communication environment "e-Learning Forum", which is based on analyzing theoretical foundation, technological condition and relevant cases. Within one and a half years, the author have succeeded in organizing 46 online academic communication activities. 9114 people , logging in 2437 independent IP address from all parts of the country, have participated in them. This paper takes "e-Learning Forum" as an example, expounds the process and methods of founding online academic communication environment from four parts as following: platform designing, personnel organization, theme selecting and operation managing; Then combining the questionnaire and the data from the platform, the author discusses the scope, frequency and effect of online academic communication and also analyzes the reason why " e-Learning Forum" is succeed.As the theoretical results of this research, after summarizing the practical experience of founding "e-Learning Forum" and combining relative theory, the author puts forward the model of online academic communication environment. This model includes four subsystems: platform, personnel, theme and management. Among them platform is the foundation, personnel are the subjects, theme is the core, and management is the motive force. The comfortable network platform can offer technical support for online communication; the carefully chosen theme can give academic expression to online communication; the high-level expert is a sign of the academic communication level; well-organizational management is the successful assurance of online academic communication. This model can be regarded as reference to other online academic communication environment.
