Research On Location Management For UMTS

Location management is one of the most important problems in mobile communication. It seriously affects the performance of mobile network. Since the naissance of mobile communication, people never stop studying the scheme of location management. Location management mainly resolves the problem of location update and paging of MT (mobile terminal). The main work of this thesis, which is about the scheme of location management, is as follow:1) Use the UMTS for research, we study the location management scheme of wireless network. The problems that the location management must resolve are: when the MT updates its location information, how to choose the area of paging as soon as the call coming and how to share the location information over the network. The first two problems attributed to design location update and paging algorithm, the last problem attributed to database design. In this thesis, we had studied the current international and domestic method of location update algorithm design, paging algorithm design and database design.
