The Research And Application For Network Sniffer Technology

Since the invention of the first computer network in the world in 1969, the network management technology has made a rapid progress and exerted profound influence in various aspects of the society, with the expansion of the network scale, the number of impacting the network service is also increasing. In order to ensure a reliable and stable network running and give full play to the network, the network management technology, which aims at monitoring and controlling a complicated network to ensure it running effectively for a long, emerged as the times require.This paper not only introduces the concept of Sniffer technology— a kind of network monitoring technology, but also puts it into the application of the network management. Through the study of Sniffer technology for network management, the author has completed a design of Jawgs software with its own copyright and also uses it in the network management in order to implement the analysis of network performance, network failure, network security strategy, and network flux.The paper first introduces the general concepts of network management and Sniffer technology; then demonstrates the technical feasibility of using the Sniffer technology in network management. Based on these discussions, the author proposes some advices for the improvement of Sniffer technology by focusing its difficulties and some of issues. In addition, in order to put the technology into practice use, the paper also introduces the analyzing and designing of Jawgs structure including systematic structure, frame structure, communication model, and interface definition; then provides the data structure and algorithms of some important modules to accomplish functions of Jawgs by realizing of the middle drivers module service, capture module service, application service and database installing. Finally, the paper gives a summary and points out the prospect of Sniffer technology.
