It is necessary for the transport format selection function to select a suitable transmitting data rate and a way of bit assigning in the third mobile communication system and its enhanced version. This dissertation focuses on the researching of transport format selection algorithms in HSUPA system.The Main contents are as follows:1. We expatiate on fundamental of transport format selection function in the perspective of protocol architecture. In order to compare with the difference of transport format selection between WCDMA system and HSUPA system. We first introduce the protocol architecture of WCDMA system, and expatiate on the principle of transport format selection in the dedicated channel of WCDMA system. Then, we introduce characteristics of HSUPA protocol architecture, which lead to the difference of transport format selection in the enhanced dedicated channel of HSUPA system.2. We divide the problem of transport format selection into two subproblems. According to the characteristic of transport format selection in HSUPA system, we divide the problem of transport format selection into two subproblems, one is the problem of selecting a suitable size of transport block, and the other is the problem of assigning the information in the selected transport block to different service. The problem of selecting a suitable size of transport block is to research how to select a suitable transmitting data rate, and the problem of assigning the information of transport block is to research how to multiplex multiple services into the selected transport block.3. We put forward an improved transport block size selecting algorithm. There are three representative transport block size selecting algorithms, including max transmitting rate algorithm, service credit algorithm and markov algorithm.
