| The multi-domain bistable reflective cholesteric liquid crystal displays (Ch-LCD) have been a kind of remarkable reflective display in recent years. This display is realized by the two contrastive states between Plannar texture's Bragg reflective bright state and Focal Conic's scattered dark state. Two stable states at zero field is its most notable characteristic, so it is a low power reflective display. It is no polarizer, readable in sunlight, also plastic display, suitable to E-paper application, and received more attentions. The structure and display principle of CH-LCD are introduced firstly, then some driving methods are discussed. Now, there are three driving methods for the CH-LCD: dynamic driving schemes, cumulative driving schemes and updating driving schemes with P state. Comparing these three driving schemes, analyzing the merits and shortcomings of these driving methods and according to the performances of CHLCD devices we fabricated, the updating driving schemes with P state are chosen to be our driving schemes. After the designs of updating driving schemes are completed, these driving schemes are achieved by the circuit, then applied to the sample of the reflective multi-domain CH-LCD, the phase transitions among the three phase states can be obtained successfully. With the success in phase transitions, the driving schemes for static character displays of CH-LCD are designed, then, the character driving schemes are applied to the driving system of 8×8 matrix CH-LCD, after testing the functions of this driving system, the static character display of this matrix CH-LCD can be achieved successfully. |
