With the wildly spread of the embedded terminal products such as PMP, PMC, and PDA in public, the application of Multimedia on embedded system has become more and more universal, and the play-back support to most types of media file also become more and more important. The implementation of the play-back support to most popular media file on embedded system is the main aim in this article. The Design and Implementation is based on the popular multimedia player TCPMP which can run on the platform Palm-OS and Windows-CE/Windows-Mobile. And the play-back support of the RealMedia media file and the DirectDraw support of the media player is the core. There are five parts together. Some basic knowledge of multimedia and multimedia player including multimedia audio, video, and data compression will be introduced in the first part. The hardware and software platform which the media player runs on is introduced in the second part. The designing principle of the media player and the design of some important modules are introduced in the third part. The fourth discusses how to implement the play-back support of the RealMedia media file and the Directdraw support of the media player. At Last, some necessary tests is introduced to show the improvement of the media player.Since the media player has been improved, it can support not only the play-back of the Media file which supported by the former media player, but also the play-back of the RealMedia media file (rv10, rv20) and the frame rate can increase by 22.14% for AVI file which contains the video stream with the standard of VGA.
