Printed-Circuit-Board-Assemble (PCBA) is a fundamental part of electronic product. To a great extent, its performance directly determines the quality of the entire product. In order to meet the urgent need of PCBA automatic test system in Chinese market, we are trying to develop a new kind of high performance, low cost PCBA fault diagnosis system based on the current achievement in the electronics, computer technology and data processing.This paper first analyses PCBA auto test technique's present situation all over the world. Then it brings forward and realizes a new design idea of PCBA fault diagnosis system. By applying virtual instrument and adopting data processing technology in its design, the whole system is composed of a PC host computer, a PCBA testing instrument, a circuit composition and the sensor. Before operating, users need to establish a flow chart, which directs the testing process, through an amicable client interface of host computer. Then by means of different panels of virtual instrument, the user could control the entire testing process. The PCBA circuit composition is used for achieving tests condition such as outputting stimulus, acquiring response, and so on. The sensor is used to convert other signals to electric signals. In addition the compact construction and small size of the testing instrument make it possible to satisfy the need of domestic market widely.This text aims at above four parts of the system, elaborating how to design the electric circuit board and the software respectively. Analysis a few kinds of electric circuit molds which are used in the design of electric circuit board. Find the ways how to achieve the electricity insulation and the data accuracy. This paper gives an expression of six mold pieces in the software design, and analyzes how to acquire the data from the PCBA. In order to find the way how the system can be used abroad, find a way to carry out the data communicate between the database and virtual instrument.Finally I introduce the actual application of the PCBA fault diagnosis system.
