With the development of the video image processing technology and the embedded technology, it is possible to design a video monitoring system based on embedded system. After introducing the standard of digital video compressing and the arithmetic of JPEG, this thesis researches the technology of video signal capturing and processing unit which is based on JPEG standard. Besides, this thesis completes the design of the JPEG image capturing and compressing unit which is based on ARM.This thesis first introduces the principle and protocol which are used in the image capturing and compressing system, then, puts forward the whole design scheme and structure of the system, after that, analyses and designs some important units, such as the ARM main control unit, video capturing and compressing unit and video transmission unit, finally, completes the software design of the system, and gives the whole design flow of the system. The image capturing unit uses the Philips' programmable video chip SAA7111A, completes the A/D conversion of the video signal and puts out the YUV format signal demanded. The image compression unit uses the JPEG standard and performs by an integrated JPEG codec ZR36060, which can create JPEG standard data stream. The compressed image is saved in SDRAM temporarily and is send to network by RTL8019AS under the control of S3C44B0X. Achieved the software function with the real time operation system μ C/OS-II, and completed to add the μ C/OS-II system to the system and extend the network function.This system uses ARM to control and uses ZR36060 to complete image compressing, thereby the system is easy and agility to extend, the cost of the system is reduced, the volume of the system is minished. With the virtues of being small and flexible, this thesis offers some valuable references for designing video capturing and processing system.
