The handheld ECG device is one of the essential tools which the heart patients with cerebrovascular disease use for independent observation and preliminary diagnosis.The paper analyzes the advantages and disadvantages of the present various structures of cardiac monitors and designs a multiprocessor handheld ECG monitor from its two most important characteristics of the small size and low power consumption. This monitor is composed by three micro-processors, which are the C8051F320, the C8051F330 and the EP7312. The C8051F330 is responsible for the acquisitions of ECG through preamplifier circuit and the completion of the long-range FM transmission. As the master controller in the multi-processor system, the C8051F320 is not only responsible for the expansion of Flash memory and keyboard, also responsible for USB data transmission by the USB controller on the chip. The EP7312 is mainly relying on its ARM microprocessor chip LCD controller and its powerful processing capability, responsible for the completion of the ECG filtering, analysis and display functions.In Software design, the paper mainly completes three aspects, namely, the realization of communication protocol among multi-processors, ECG data storage system and the realization of ECG data transmission system. First, in order to complete the transmission of the ECG data and control commands, the paper designs and implements the upper range of communication protocols among the multi-processors based on UART agreement as the bottom communication mechanisms. Secondly, the paper realizes the ECG data storage system, which is the core part of the system, including pre-acquisition storage system and main storage system. Pre-acquisition function is the unique function of the system. It allows users to browse ECG waveform before the actual acquisition through the continuous ECG collection and storage, which contributes to better conditions for the analysis of the disease. Finally, the paper also realizes the ECG data transmission system, including long-distance transmission via FM and the local transmission via USB.
