Wireless Token Ring Protocol (WTRP) is a distributed medium access controlprotocol for Ad Hoc networks. In a wireless token ring network, every station can onlyhave right to transmit data until it gets the token from its predecessor in the logic ring.Stations take turns transmitting and give up the right to transmit after a specifiedamount of time. So it can avoid the transmission collision and solve the problem ofhidden and exposed station. But this protocol still has some problems, for example, itmust construct a token ring path, which makes it has a poorly ability to fit the dynamicnetworktopology. To solve the problem, a novel medium access control protocol is proposed forwirelessAdHocnetworkinthispaper——WirelessSubnetTokenProtocol(WSTP).InWSTP,thesubnets are usedtoreplacethe rings inWTRP. Thequalityof service (QoS)for real-time traffic is guaranteed by limiting the maximum number of nodes in eachsubnet. Besides of these, the token dynamic transfer algorithm is presented which canadaptively choose a path to transfer the token without establishing a logic token ring inadvance. Compared to WTRP, it has a better adaptation to the change of the networktopology. Meanwhile, the protocol guarantees the high throughput, enhances thestability and the fairness of the network. Also, the performance comparison betweenWSTPandWTRPisprovided.
