Turbo codes, with a PCCC coding architecture and a SISO&iteration decoding strategy, is a new class of error correction codes whose performances are close to Shannon's limit under computer simulation. It has been regarded as the milestone on channelcoding theory.Discovered by computer simulation, turbo codes lack theoretical background. Now theoretic analysis and computer simulation are two primary means of research. It's very difficult to theoretically investigate turbo code, because of its complicated coding technique and decoding strategy. However Simulation can not only evaluate the validity of turbo codes' theory, but also make guidance on turbo codes design and implementation.In this thesis, firstly, the background of Turbo codes'birth, the significance research on simulation and the status of Turbo codes are introduced. Secondly, the code-decode structure and basic principle of Turbo codes are described, then some decoding algorithm of Turbo codes in common use are compared. Finally, An simulation system of turbo coding and decoding based on software is constructed, some conclusions can be drawed after we analyze the effect of different parameters to the performance of turbo codes and some advices are given for practical use.
