One important feature of the reconfigurable processor is that the architecture isn't fixed. It combines the flexibility of the software and the exclusive possession of the hardware connection, utilizes the reconfigurability of the reconfigurable devises, and changes the architecture in the run-time of processor, so that the processor could construct its specific and different architectures according to different requirement. Recently researchers of the reconfigurable processor focus their attention on three directions, which are co-processor architecture, function unit architecture and reprogrammable clusters architecture. In this paper, we first study the system architecture based on hard processor PowerPC, which is embedded in Xilinx ML310 platform, and give the model of reconfigurable processor in the form of co-processor architecture. Then we put forward a new architecture: Multi-core System with reconfigurable datapath. This architecture combines the advantage of multi-core and reconfigurable processor, possesses characteristic of high parallelism,strong computing ability,low complexity and wide range of flexible application. For the realization of this architecture, we propose two level of software simulation: VHDL level and C language level. In the VHDL layer, we do software simulation by simplifying the model of architecture and utilizing many improved 8051 cores and reconfigurable multiplex switches. The idea of this thesis is beneficial to the area of reconfigurable processor and adaptive processor.
