Along with the popularity of the Internet, e-mail is gaining increasing attention as a means of communication. But the attendant problem of spam has become more severe. Thus anti-spam technology are attracting increasing attention. The spammer sends a large number of spam using the flaw of the agreement. Thus using the characteristic of some large spam sent and same content of spam, anti-spam technology intercepts spam including statistics-based content filter, distributed adaptive blacklist. Others through verifying the mail reliability, including black-and-white list, electronic stamp plan. To deal with different aspects of the spam, people use feedback learning technology. It presumes the probability of the current mail based on data of past spam mail. Meanwhile spammer use the method of converting the original spam text to image for escaping anti-spam filtering system. New challenges have emerged. This article discusses the domestic and foreign anti-spam technological development process and analyze e-mail architecture. Secondly, it introduces the anti-spam key technologies in detail, including: black-and-white list, electronic stamp plan, statistics-based content filter, distributed adaptive blacklist, and rule-based scoring system. Meanwhile it discusses image-level spam e-mail problem. Finally, it introduces the feedback learning technology, which can adapt the changes of the spam mail, track changes automatically and adjust strategies to determine spam mail. These anti-spam technology is only defensive and cannot prevent spam generation. The fundamental method is blocking, through various means to prevent spam sending. Currently this method is not practice, and it needs the transformation of the global e-mail system. So blocking spam e-mail has a long way to go.
