UWB technology is a new communication method totally different from the traditional method such as spread-spectrum and general wide-band method. The industry generally expect it as the one candidate solutions of next generation short-range wireless communication and the localization system. Recentlly UWB technology has become one of the hot points of research on wireless communication, and the controversy focus on the standard of the protocol of short-range wireless communication. For the advantage of extremely low power spectral densities, excellent immunity to interference from other radio systems, exceptional multi-path immunity, capable of high bandwidth, multi-channel performance and high system capacity, UWB technology has aroused much attentions. More and more institutes and companies are investing in this field. The UWB communication technology is new exploration of radio spectrum, and this will develop new fields of time-domain spectrum. In this paper, we first investigated and researched thoroughly on the characteristics of the ultra-short pulse used in the UWB communications. For its wideband we calculated the signal's Power Spectrum Density (PSD), giving foundations for solving the potential interference it may cause to other communication systems. Then we measured the UWB signals in indoor circumstance by founding the UWB signal measurement system, and analysed its characteristics. For indoor circumstance, what this paper discussed was the multi-path fading indoor channel model of UWB system, we discussed the indoor channel multi-path fading model, such as S-Vmodel and IEEE 802.15.3a model. Then we discussed the statistics characteristics of UWB multi-path indoor fading channel, including the arrival rate of multi-path components, distribution of individual fading amplitude, power of fading amplitude and so on. The Nakagami distribution seems to match the amplitude fading equally well. It is a good choice for the UWB channel model. In the last we used Nakagami distribution to simulate the UWB CIR and PDP.
