With the rapid development of information technology, Internet has become a huge public data networks. Tens of millions of users have already started massively to use Internet in recent years, the fast growing number of various users makes the data quantity of Internet branch net is greatly rising by index speed, the network resources are insufficient, and the network congestion question is standed out day by day. But the appearances of each kind of new service also call the new demands to the network quality of service. In network development, for instance, the On-line current capacity of China United telecom mounted up explosively by Geometric series, the lower network resource utilized efficiency, the frequent network jam, as well as the users'unceasingly enhanced network quality of service provided by China United telecom, all these factors force them to improve network quality to meet customers'demand of high-quality network, carry out topical protect to congested network, and implement network safety business. MPLS provides a basic network structure for the issue. Traffic Engineering, which is on the basis of Multiple Protocol Label Switch(MPLS)technology, is the mainstream techniques of next generation TE widely canonized in the industry currently.This article expatiates on the principle of MPLS technology and its main characteristic when applied to Traffic Engineering. It analyzes the meaning of Traffic Engineering and points out the necessity of implementing Traffic Engineering on Internet from a historical point of view. It also makes an analysis on the defects in flux projects on certain IP networks. Based on my working experience, the article takes China United Telecom as an example, put forward a new scheme based on MPLS Traffic Engineering (MPLS TE). The new technology, combined Traffic Engineering with MPLS——the lapped model, resolves the problems caused by increase in flux, low utility of resources and network congestion. The scheme makes detailed analysis on every unit of Traffic Engineering within China United Telecom. Based on the actual situation in China United telecom, this scheme brings forward Fast ReRoute (FRR) technology in MPLS TE. FRR is a set of mechanism used in chain and node protection.
