With the increasingly widespread use of orientation systems, and the needs of military and civilian applications, underwater acoustic positioning system has become a new developmental direction. Based on the study of the underwater acoustic positioning, the precept of an underwater target's track detecting system is presented in this paper.Firstly, the development and study status of the underwater acoustic positioning technology are discussed. Then, this paper introduces the theory about the underwater target's track detecting system. The key technology, method of range measuring, signal waveform design, localization algorithm with cross array and time delay estimation(TDE) algorithm, are particularly studied. Based on project needs, appropriate forms of cooperation signal and method of measuring range are choosed in the dissertation. Considering the characteristic of several time delay estimation algorithms and the cooperation signal, an improved TDE algorithm using phase spectrum is presented. Simulation results show that the algorithm can get higher resolution.Choosing MCU, DSP, CPLD as the core of the system, the software and the hardware of the underwater target's track detecting system is dissertated emphatically. The key technology that include the signal generating, signal amplification and matching, design of A/D converting, synchoronous range measuring and on-board digital signal processing are discussed. In order to satisfy the need of real time and accuracy of the system, we use TMS320VC5409 as the computing CPU to realize the positioning algorithm.At last, the software and hardware of system are debugged in laboratory. Then we make an experiment at water pool. The results on experimental data show the design is feasible.The system can accurately detect the track of the underwater target. It can also play a certain role in the civilian field with different settings.
