The data warehouse techniques is increasingly growing up in the area of information technology, and has been widely researched. Data warehouse is an integrative technology on administration and application. An enterprise, which wants to win the competition and acquires more income, must make use of the data warehouse technology, mine deeply, analyze historical, current and relevant information data, and acquire useful decision making information automatically. So data warehouse can provide fast, exact and convenient decision support to enterprises.The data warehouse is a subject-oriented, integrated, time-variant and nonvolatile collection of data in support of management'decision making process. Data warehousing is not a new platform,but a new concept. Meanwhile it is not a product,but a solution. It provides decision-maker a single analysis environment, in which information from multiple heterogeneous sources is transformed and integrated in advance and stored in a warehouse.On-Line Analytical Processing (OLAP) is a classical application of data warehousing for the interactive analysis of multidimensional data of varied granularities. Moreover, OLAP supports some multidimensional analytical operations, such as slice, dice, roll-up, drill-down and rotate, which provide users with the flexibility to view data from different perspectives.This paper does researth on the data warehouse technology oriented decision support. Making use of the knowledge of data warehouse and OLAP, designs the data warehouse system framework supported the decision of sell on iron and steel industry independently by the author, and implements a data warehouse system based on the frame work, then makes the application research on this combination.The paper introduces firstly the concept and characteristic, system frame, data organizing of data warehouse, as well as the major techniques of building data warehouse system, secondly, explicates the key tools and the way to reslove project of data warehouse given by Oracle based on Oracle 9i, then does research on the way to apply the knowledge of data warehouse and OLAP to implement DSS. the main work can be summarize as following:Realizes the data warehouse model and the three-tier client and server framework of OLAP satisfying the model, and makes three subjects, contract subject, sale subject and gathering suject, the prior work makes the setting of data warehouse providing decision-making.Gets the data from ETL process with the Oracle Warehouse Builder in part.Uses the latest Discoverer of Oracle Business Intelligence Tools to realize anylizing mutidimensional operation of OLAP in order to show multidimensional data in two-dimensional screen.Designs the application model of data warehouse based on Oracle, implements the data warehouse system framework and model and analysis of OLAP, then realizes the application of data warehouse system supporting decision-making on selling steels and iron independently.In practice, the DSS created with application model and process of data warehouse designed in the paper, which is efficient, flexible and useful, making full use of Oracle tools, gets a good remark by decision-makers of LIUZHOU STEELS AND IRON CORPORATION in application. The methods of application model and the process of data warehouse system in the paper is very useful to design and to implement data warehouse based on Oracle.
