| CAD technology comes into being and continuously develops with the advent and evolution of computer technology. Half a century has passed since the advent of CAD technology. A perfect science and technology system has been established for CAD technology from its appearance, development and improvement to highly integrated system at present. It plays an important role in advanced and new technology fields.An intelligent CAD system for cutting tools used on modular machine tools, integrated with the optimization of cutting tool's geometric parameters, the optimization of cutting parameters, and the automatic generation of 3D solid image and 2D drawing of each component and the assembly drawing of a cutting tool, is developed using CBR technology, expert system, dynamic link library, ADO technology, and using the merits of Visual C++ 6.0, SQL server 2000 and Solidworks. This dissertation mainly focuses on its general configuration, functional modules and its working flow, among which the optimization model for cutting tool geometric parameters and finite element analysis are described in detail.A cutting tool directly penetrates into a workpiece in metal cutting, and its performance has a crucial effect on the efficiency and accuracy of cutting. The objective of this dissertation is to introduce parameterized design and numerical simulation into the study and design of cutting tools. By traditional approach for cutting tool's geometric parameters optimization, cutting tools with various geometric parameters are first ground, followed by a great deal of cutting tests and verification, then the cutting tool with reasonable geometric parameters is gained. This process often consumes a lot of time and cost. The results obtained from the study will be helpful for reducing the period of traditional theoretical analysis and experiment. CBR technology, expert system, dynamic link library, ADO technology are employed. The geometric parameters of combination cutting tools are optimized by experiential method and pointing approach respectively. And the stress and strain of each cutting tool using finite element method based on cutting force prediction are analyzed (such as maximum deflection of boring bar). The plug-in module named COSMOSWorks in software Solidworks is applied to analyze and check the strength of combination cutting tools. Thus the generated graphics model of cutting tool is supplied with the optimal geometric parameters, and the essential information is supplied to optimize the structure design of cutting tools. Because the method is convenient and swift, the efficiency and reliability of the design and development for cutting tools will be greatly improved.The research results indicate that through optimizing geometric parameters of cutting tools used on modular machine tools and analyzing them in special cutting conditions based on finite element, cutting tools'geometric angle and design parameters tend to be more reasonable, which offers valuable reference for the structure design and the use of the cutting tools, and improves the durability of the cutting tools. Therefore the intelligent CAD system will be beneficial for the determination of optiamal geometric parameters of cutting tools used on modular machine tools, the generation of dimensional parameters for graphics modules as well as the selection of reasonable cutting parameters. The 2D drawings and 3D solid images generated meet the requirements of the factory as well. |
