Mobile Ad Hoc network, known as mobile self-organized network or MANET, is a wireless and mobile self-organized network with no frastructure. As no fixed base station is needed, every node can move freely, and can realize dynamic link. Besides, with its strong vitality and conveniency of building up & moving, it makes up the deficiency of Cellular systems and cable networks, and is not substituted in many special aspects. This paper firstly introduces the conception & characteristics of Mobile Ad Hoc network, then analyses the route technology. Detailed discussion of current typical routing protocols is made from the follow aspects, route discovering, route maintaining and so on. Simulation of three typical routing protocols, AODV, DSR and DSDV is done in NS2. Average Packet Delivery Fraction, Average End-to-End Delay and Routing Load three main parameters are selected to compare the performance of the three route protocols for different speeds and network sizes. Through simulation, understand the principles of different protocols and the bug & difficulty faced of Plane demand unicast routing protocols much better, as well as many practical conclusions.Based on the deep comprehension of mobile Ad Hoc network routing protocols, extension and improvement are made to make the AODV protocols have the multipath routing function. And Qos is supported in a way by farther extension & improvement made based on the multipath routing protocol. The principle of improved protocol is detailed, and the performance comparison between improved protocol and AODV is simulated in NS2, to come to the conclusion that improved protocol is superior to AODV in many performance aspects.Paper mainly studies Ad hoc network routing protocols, current typical routing protocols are simulated, and an improved AODV protocol is proposed, which is proved to be feasible by simulation. As a main factor which influences the performance of Ad hoc network, mobile Ad Hoc network routing protocol is the key to keep Ad hoc network work. The author hopes the research can help the application of mobile Ad Hoc network on a large scale.
