The LPR (License Plate Recognition) system is a significant part in the modern intelligent traffic management, which is of expansive application in the traffic management and police security. At present, most of the License Plate Recognition systems are based on the PC. However, the generalization is restricted by its vast volume and require of performance environment. Along with technique and its advance of the DSP, the image process systems based on the DSP are widely used in all sorts of fields.This paper has made researches focus on The License Plate Recognition system and its realization on DSP. An integrated LPR system was presented in this paper, including five parts Video Detection of Vehicle, Location and Division of the License Plate, Binarization of the Image of the License Plate, Character Segmentation and Character Recognition. Each part has introduced the principle and algorithm. Then, the paper has actualized the License Plate Recognition system on DSP and introduced the optimizations the LPR software to improve the speed since there is difference between PC and DSP.
