A Study On The Financing Issue Of Chinese Private Publishing Industry In Modern Times

Chinese publishing industry in modern times appears in a large cultural conflict unheard before. After the first Opium War, western cultures flowed in along with their hard ships and canons. Ancient Chinese culture spontaneously resisted it first, then doubted it, and finally absorbed it. During this cultural conflict, publishers in modern times actively built a bridge for the fusion of the western civilization and the ancient eastern culture. They actively learned the advanced experience of western economics, culture, the idea of management, the pattern of operating, and so on, and formed a distinctive publishing pattern of Chinese publishing industry in modern times and achieved its own accomplishment.This thesis tries to study the appearance of Chinese private publishing agency in modern times and the financing methods introduced from the west with the joint-stock system as its main way, and the combination of the two. The purpose is to explore the hard process of how the Chinese private publishing agency overcame difficulties, effectively made use of various funds to find its way of living and the developing regularity within the process, under the turbulent situation and the pressure of western cultures, during the period of the investment of foreign capital, bureaucratic capital, comprador capital, and private capital.This thesis analyzes the different developing stages of various financing methods and their different roles played in the Chinese publishing agency in modern times. At the same time, the limitations within them are also analyzed in detail, and the thesis also indicates the significance of researching the use of various financing methods in Chinese private publishing industry in modern times to the contemporary publishing work. It would be appreciated if it would have some use to the contemporary publishing industry, especially to the private publishing industry.
