Research On Content-Based Video Retrieval System

With the rapid development of multimedia and network technology, multimedia had been widely applied in many fields , such as common information , advertisement , education ,medicine , business and entertainment .The spread of digital video had become more and more easily. Digital Television,multimedia broadcasting,video conference had entered into the daily life step by step and video had become one of the mainstream carrier of information transmit. Nowadays, the problem people facing ,is how to find the needing content quickly and effectively ,where there are so much video information ;not the short of video information. This thesis analyses the existing frame of video retrieval and studies the key technologies of the video retrieval system based on the text character.This thesis do the research as below:(1) Realizing the playing of the video and the capture of the video frame using the DirectShow technology;(2)Discussing the principle and main algorithms of the shot segmentation; introduce the mainstream algorithms of the Pixel differences method and the Color Histogram-based method ;studying the method of the Mutual Information; realizing these methods with VC++ and do the compare of these methods;(3) Researching the principle and main algorithms of the key frame extraction technology; do the research of the key frame extraction technology based on the Mutual Information;(4)Analyzing the characteristic of the text and text in the video stream; take the basketball video for example, and realize the method of the text recognition.This thesis program the friendly interface with the Windows XP operating system, main tool of the DirectX SDK9.0 and language of the Visual C++6.0 to realize the video playing ,video frame capture and the algorithms of the shot segmentation and the key frame. And using the professional OCR software to realize the text recognition.Business Video Retrieval System is a huge project and needs great effort. So this thesis seizes the emphases. Shot boundary detection and key frame extraction are the key technologies of the system. This thesis do the main research of these aspects. To the other aspect of the Video Retrieval System, just do the theory analyzing. Of course, the purpose of research is to apply. Wish this thesis can do some help to further research.
