Based on the discoveries and insights from the former studies of the program, this thesis presents an implementary mechanism of CBAS (Case Based Automotive Styling) prototype system. The development of system is based on the analysis of automobile design processes and design tools as well as the comparison of digital design models.CAID (Computer Aided Industrial Design) and CBD(Case Based Design) have been presented as an applied conception and effective method used in the whole processes of product design for some years. The paper reviews some implementary mechanisms proposed to CAID and the existing CAID software. Based on the theory of the CBR (Case Based Reasoning), an implementary mechanism of CBAS is proposed which is driven by the analysis of automobile design processes and the acquirement and representation of special knowledge about automobiles'form. This implementary mechanism provides an effective solution towards automobile CAID systems.Based on the experiences and problems we met in the research process, this thesis starts from the analysis of automobile design processes, then researches the representation of the special knowledge towards automobiles'form in terms of the modules of system functions, and realizes the prototype system.
