With the development of communication technology, the existing communication system can't meet the increasing demands for bandwidth. But wide-area Broadband Wireless Access Network (BWAN) can effectively solve this problem, therefore, wide-area Broadband Wireless Access Network becomes one of the most important projects of digital city construction. From MMDS which begins in 2001 to the existing Wi-MAX, the broadband wireless access technology has made great strides in development. With the standardization of technology and the perfection of the industry chain, the wide-area broadband wireless access can become more and more popular. With the characteristics of low cost, easy access and few restrictions, this technology particularly suits for developing countries' information construction. The construction of wide-area Broadband Wireless Access Network depends on many factors, so we need to improve the industry chain, keep close cooperation with the government, and then find out the development way of broadband wireless which is suitable for national conditions through practice. This paper focuses on the matters as follow. First, it analyses the background and development process of wide-area Broadband Wireless Access Network as well as its existing operation mode. Second, the paper studies the key technologies of wide-area Broadband Wireless Access Network and its network technology (e.g. MMDS, Wi-MAX, MESH). Third, based on the actual situation of Beijing, the paper designs the blueprint of wide-area Broadband Wireless Access Network and sets up the integrated operation system. Finally it discusses the problems that we might encounter in the process of BWAN implementation and the related solutions.
