Structure On-line Handwritten Document And Gesture Design

Paper-pen's working means is common to everyone. People use it to capture, exchange information and record thinking, which is natural to human being. However, it has disadvantages because it's difficult to amend, maintain and search for some things, which will cause some difficulties in operating the documents .However, the Pen-based User Interface has the metaphor of paper-pen, which can resolve some problems to some extent. The Pen-based UI uses computer technology to do some functions which conventional paper-pen can't do. At the same time, it reforms the working method of human and establishes a harmonious human-computer interactive environment. At the early period of the Pen-based UI, the designers pay attention to character and geometry recognition.This thesis uses the freeform sketch to discuss some problems. The system keeps the form of the handwriting, and doesn't recognize it. But the computer lacks the ability of human to get the structured information of the strokes which may be a character unit or a line unit, and so on. For amending ,maintaining and searching's convenience, the system must structure the freeform handwritten document so that the discrete strokes become meaningful units .However, structuring is a method not an aim. People operate the document to achieve some tasks. People use command gestures to operate the pen-based UI. So, we must discuss the related problems, which is that what gestures are comfortable to people and how to recognize command gestures from the handwriting. This thesis will discuss three aspects which are structuring handwritten documents, gesture design and gesture recognition. The research and development are as follows:At structuring handwritten documents aspect, the system uses context and increment extracting to structure the documents .Using increment extracting can make the best of the context, which will advance the efficiency of structuring.At gesture design aspect, the system uses the structured document's characters to design gestures, which will be more comfortable to people. For example, clicking one line can select one line.At gesture recognition aspect, the thesis gives a many interpreters, many filters structure to process the gesture implicitly, uses the context and many interpreters to process the gesture implicitly. Implicit gesture processing makes the user not to change the working mode explicitly. So people can think and operate more fluently.
