TCP presents more and more limits as the evolution of IP network; Stream Control Transmission Protocol (SCTP) is a new transport protocol which has been standardized by IETF to overcome the limits of TCP. Nowadays, network services will need higher throughput, interaction and security, which require service platform to provide more processing power and higher availability. Therefore, in order to meet the big applications, many companies use load balance cluster system to provide services, which is comprised of a group of servers. But neither of these systems supports SCTP nor do the schedule algorithms consider the characteristics of SCTP.The load balance system that supports SCTP is studied to meet higher throughput, interaction and security requirements of more and bigger SCTP applications. Linux virtual server (LVS) takes great use today. One of the more appealing benefits to LVS is that its source is open and available to anyone to study. So LVS is selected to study the implementation of SCTP load balance system.The research and application states of SCTP are analyzed to provide overall view of SCTP. The characters of SCTP, load balance technology of cluster system and work flow of LVS load director are also analyzed to propose SCTP load balance system overall design.LVS adopt module design to provide framework for adding new protocol and algorithm. The SCTP module design and realization are discussed in detail; and four schedule algorithms are proposed according to SCTP application's characters. The test results show that the SCTP load balance system designed by this paper is correct and available.SCTP is a new transport protocol which has become mature and there are many SCTP implementations and SCTP applications. The work and contribution of this paper have realistic significance to the research and implementation of SCTP load balance system.
