The Portal Designing Of Distant Learning System Base On Grid

The modern distance education is one of fields that earliest apply Internet. With the development of Internet technology, people prefer learning on the Internet. Many integral and practical distance teaching systems are developed, and there are more and more learning resources on the Internet. But they can't share with each other efficiently because they are distributed and heterogeneous. So experts pay more attention to apply Grid technology to distance education. Grid Portal, as the interface of the Grid, hides the complexity of the Grid and provides a convenient approach to access the Grid resource and service. Research on the Grid Portal will be benefit to make distance education utility based on the Grid technology.Firstly, concepts of the Grid,the purpose and meaning of the Grid,the related technique and the application fields of the Grid are introduced. Then current distance teaching system and the characters of distant learning resource are analyzed. According to the analysis of the deficiency of management and resource sharing, a model of distant learning system based on the Grid is proposed. The requirement analysis about the Portal of distant learning system based on the Grid is explained in emphasis, and the technique route of designing this grid portal system is expounded comprehensively.Based on the understanding of popular development tool kits of Grid Portal, GPDK is chosen as the tool kit. Then the design ideology and architecture of the Portal of distant learning system base on the Grid are described in the paper. And functional modules are partitioned and designed in the Portal of distant learning system. The methods of organizing, managing and accessing learning resources, which have close relations with designing the Portal of distant learning system based on the Grid, are discussed.
